The Knitting Factory brand started in 1987 - the brainchild of Michael Dorf and Bob Appel. Originally, the location for the New York Knitting Factory was Manhattan. However, the decision was soon made to relocate it, and so, the Knitting Factory Brooklyn was born in 2008. In its early days, the Knitting Factory Brooklyn specialized in jazz and experimental music but now offers a variety of musical genres in its listings.
